Matt Varga We’ve seen it on-court and through his personal sense of style; LaMelo Ball is truly one of one. Adapting his entirely unique flair in his signature shoes has allowed his line to similarly stand apart from the competition, earning a foothold through avant garde construction and colorways since 2021. The next step is finally nearing release, as he and PUMA Hoops just officially unveiled his PUMA MB.04.
True to the first looks at the shoe, Y2K-era graphics are the true show-stealer sitting atop a base of engineered mesh. TPU overlays incorporate a host of his personal iconography; his phoenix logo appears towards the forefoot, his “1 of one” mantra creeps through the eyestays towards the quarter, and “RARE” is stamped right below the laces. All of these combine for a truly arresting first impression, said by PUMA to hit on the “idea of symbiosis […] enveloped by all of Melo’s attributes & rarities.”
Of course, as PUMA’s foremost basketball shoes, they didn’t skimp on the performance capabilities. EVA foam in the midsole accomplishes energy return & cushioning, while the TPU siding towards the forefoot provides stabilization for both your and LaMelo’s trickiest on-court moves.
To further emphasize the baby blue colorway that’ll introduce the PUMA MB.04, the German giant is rolling out an identical look on the PUMA LaFrance 1:1, Ball’s lifestyle shoe introduced a few months back. To celebrate the launch of his new signature, Puma will embark on the North America Melo Tour beginning on August 26th in Charlotte, hitting Atlanta on the 28th, Miami on the 29th before closing out with a NYC date on the 30th.
Both the PUMA MB.04 and the LaFrance 1:1 release on September 12th alongside a collection of matching apparel. All of it will be available via PUMA.com, the PUMA app and select retailers including Champs & Foot Locker.
