In the first few looks for Breanna Stewart’s PUMA Stewie 3, she and the German brand have played out some of her defining moments and characteristics. First came the “City of Love” edition, revealed before tipoff in Paris but a fitting opening salvo as the Liberty superstar and the US women’s team claimed gold once again. Then the PUMA Harry Potter collab inserted a her favorite franchise. Now, PUMA is going international once again, oding to the six-time All-Star’s second Olympic gold from 2021 with the “Tokyo Nights” edition.
Though Stewart had already earned gold at the 2016 Rio games, taking home another in Tokyo coincided with her ascension to the upper echelon of the W. That professional juncture makes the Tokyo-centric colorway here an important choice, and the Japanese city’s neon tonality paces this shoe overall.
An animated mix of light blue, pink, royal blue and of course, gold, dance atop a black mesh foundation, itself dotted with colorful illustrations. Beyond the storytelling aspects, this look is notable just for its sheer vibrancy, an eclectic blend that certainly stands out against its soft “City of Love” and nocturnal Harry Potter predecessors.
The PUMA Stewie 3 “Tokyo Nights” drops on September 27th via PUMA.com and their retail channels, as well as Champs & Foot Locker. Retail is set at $120. Get a better sense before this pair’s arrival via the campaign images and product shots included throughout this piece.
