Nike’s strategy in Air Max has always centered around innovation. On top of entirely new models like the Air Max Dn, old staples have gotten a fresh coat of paint throughout Beaverton’s history. The dominant theme this year is “Drift,” a TPU, chunky build that’s taken to the Air Max Plus and the Air Max 90. Yet visible air isn’t the inspiration for the latest look, instead pulling from the ACG stable.
It’s the “Rattan” colorway of the ACG Mowabb that lights this pair, lending its iconic combination of beige, orange and blue. The added sections on the Air Max 90 Drift make a one-to-one replication that much easier; see the crossing pattern underneath the transparent toe-box, replicating the silken section on the original shoe. If we’re picking nits, a speckled midsole would’ve truly rounded out this pair, but the eccentric colorway is replicated faithfully all the same, bringing the 1990s design language into next century.
Look for the Nike Air Max 90 Drift “Mowabb” on shelves and Nike.com in the coming weeks, landing with an expected retail price of $160.
