From the moment that first look images surfaced, the Air Jordan 4 Net has been incredibly divisive, somewhat understandable given how big of a swing Beaverton took with the shoe and how beloved the AJ4 proper remains. In addition to the central design change, the shoe sports premium leather, various hang-tags that attach to the new net sheath, and an additional panel between that cage and the tongue, presumably as added protection.
The 35th anniversary of the Air Jordan 4 placing it in the spotlight means this is an opportune time to experiment with the silhouette. Still, it’s far from the first time that the model has experienced significant changes in this way. The “LAB” series from about a decade ago presents a suitable comparison point, where the defining touches from shoes throughout Mike’s signature line swapped onto their peers – perhaps this could’ve been a “4LAB4” during that period. Additionally, the AJ4 shuffled into the Flyknit series just a few years later. It arrived fully decked out in the airy material, further running rampant over shoes like the Air Jordan 1 and Air Jordan 3.
