First Look At The Nike Kobe 8 Protro EXT “Year Of The Horse”

Straight out of the Wild West.

First Look At The Nike Kobe 8 Protro EXT “Year Of The Horse”

The most important “Year Of The Horse” sneaker collection of 2026 belongs to Kobe Brand. The original Kobe 8 “Year Of The Horse” is set to enter the Protro canon, and Beaverton has two additional premium “EXT” styles that take vastly different approaches to celebrating the Lunar New Year.

Last month introduced us to a black pony hair style featuring a smattering of gold hardware, still a hoops shoe of course, but far more lifestyle-adjacent than the Kobe 8 franchise as we’ve come to know it. Here we have another style that feels straight out of the Wild West. The upper is made from Light Orewood Brown suede, complete with ventilations/detailing around the quarter and molded sections for the toe cap, eyelets, and heel Kobe sheath. The lateral Swooshes are made from Baroque Brown pony hair to match the lining and medial logos. A suede Ocean Cube panel featuring white stitching runs over the heel in place of a TPU counter, while an Ocean Cube/Red Stardust gradient appears on the outsole. To cap it all off, each shoe comes with branded metal horseshoe lace dubraes.

The Nike Kobe 8 Protro EXT “Year Of The Horse” doesn’t have a concrete release date or retail price yet. We’ll update our coverage as soon as more info becomes available.
