A Thanksgiving shock drop brought the Kobe 6 “Grinch” Vapor Edge Cleats into public hands, but don’t fret if you missed out on that holiday launch. Nike will revisit the same playbook on December 24th, Christmas Eve, set to drop the pair once again for $230.

It’s the first official embrace of basketball shoes turned football cleats, mirroring a player-driven wave that’s taken over the NFL in the past few years. Odell Beckham, Ceedee Lamb, and Stefon Diggs are just some players who’ve tabbed their own special makeups (the Texans WR referenced the Kobe 6 “Italian Camo” with one of his). However, a few have taken this exact colorway onto the football field way before Nike. Former Eagles Jalen Mills and Miles Sanders commissioned their own Kobe 6 Grinch Cleats in recent seasons, creating a nice bit of on-field precedent and hype before this official Nike release.

Though the SKU and release date may have changed, this remains the exact pair that came about on Thanksgiving, bringing studded Vapor Edge tooling onto the beloved, holiday-themed colorway. While two separate launches are already proof enough, note the extended push behind this colorway out of Beaverton, best exemplified by their ad featuring a “Grinchified” viper, checking off NFL stars on the “Naughty vs. Nasty” list. While the figure tabs pairs for faces like Ja’Marr Chase, Sauce Gardner, and Jaylen Waddle in the video, some real-life players have started getting product as well, including Steelers QB Russell Wilson, (perhaps un)coincidentally scheduled to play on Christmas.
