Matt Varga There’s no doubt about it — as evidenced by the synergistically timed Squid Game Crocs, Netflix is putting every ounce of their promotional weight behind Season 2 of the Korean drama. In fact, in a full press release, the media corporation unveiled a wave of apparel, food, and collectibles collaborations, including an official reveal of the Squid Game PUMA collection, set to release on December 12th.
Three distinct silhouettes, the Easy Rider, Classic and Palermo enter the games, each displaying motifs and imagery directly ripped from the show. We’ll begin on the Easy Rider, if only for its easy digestibility; the contestant’s green and red jumpsuits inspire the all-leather makeup. On the interior, a full-length graphic displaying the animatronic overseer from Red Light, Green Light appears, working in one of the show’s most memorable scenes in the periphery.
From there, we have the PUMA Palermo, draped in an accessible white and orange colorway, ceding space to a multi-color geometric pattern on the sock-liner. When combined with the gum sole underfoot, the sepia-tinted set for the marble game towards Season 1’s midpoint presents as the clearest touchpoint, but official word on where this pair’s inspiration stems from has yet to emerge. Finally, we have the PUMA Suede Classic, clad in a wave of pastel shading that references the eerie MC Escher-inspired staircase the contestants traverse from one game to the next.
Alongside each of these shoes, PUMA is releasing a Squid Game apparel range. The full collection drops on December 12th – retail pricing for the Classic hasn’t come about just yet, but retailers have confirmed that the Easy Rider and Palermo each command a $100 sticker price.
