Champion, Hall of Famer, best shooter of all time. With the labels and accolades that Steph Curry currently carries, it can be hard to even imagine a time when his stardom was in question, but around the time of Slam 173, the first time the Warriors PG graced the cover, none of those things were close to a given. As the iconic basketball magazine continues to celebrate its 30th anniversary, the hoops institution and legendary hooper joined forces once again, minting two special colorways of his signature shoes to commemorate their journey together.
Since that 2013 edition, Curry has been on the front page nearly a dozen times, but the two do-ups here feature solely imagery for that #173 print. The “Can’t Miss Kid” moniker that the magazine bestowed on him is the most eye-catching detail, embedded into the sockliner of the Curry 12. Either shoe alternates between the dominant blue and yellow tones that’ve defined Curry’s Bay Area career and the jersey he rocked for the photo op. Speaking of, it’s not just an empty gesture between the mag and sneaker brand — Curry suited up in both pairs in the lead-up for this announcement, further bringing his journey into the present day.
Though the UA Curry 12 and Spawn Flotro “SLAM” will remain PEs for Steph and those close to him, they’re still plenty intriguing even from afar. Check out official campaign imagery of the two limited colorways just ahead.
