Original article published January 2nd, 2025: As the 740 model comes into clear view as a major focus for New Balance in 2025, one of the first collaborations that tipped off the model’s importance was the Boston retailer’s take. Directly inspired by the wine-making process, it’s proving to be quite the rich narrative to pull from, as they’re doubling back for an inverse “Brut” champagne edition.
While the debut pair hit on what goes into Rosé, here the shoe references the driest variety of champagne, the barely-sweet makeup that persists as the most popular on store shelves year-over-year. The emeraldine gradient that defined the first pair remains in broad strokes, with the emphasis on Chardonnay grapes intact for this sequel shoe. A flare of bright orange at the tongue adds some visual contrast, while a black sole accomplishes the same in opposite fashion underfoot. Finally, a fan-favorite touch, the cork insole, rounds out the design with some special edition flair.
Circling back to the model’s overall brand importance, this two-pack from CNCPTS adds to the Amine New Balance 740 as its third collaboration since just November. Add that to a hefty crop of general release pairs lining the shelves, and the message is abundantly clear: the New Balance 740 will be an overly familiar face in 2025.
The CNCPTS New Balance 740 “Brut” releases on January 10th — though pricing information hasn’t been announced just yet, the previous “Saignée” edition landed with a $120 MSRP.
