For those who were there to witness the original 2012 release, the Galaxy Foamposite is a shoe that needs no introduction. Arriving fifteen years after the Foamposite One hit the market, the Galaxy Foams were part of a larger Nike Basketball collection including the Kobe 7, LeBron 9, and KD 4 centered around All-Star Weekend. The “Galaxy” was the first Foamposite One to incorporate a screen-printed design on the upper; a quality that spawned one of the most memorable and chaotic in-person releases of all time. The craziness surrounding the launch motivated Nike to move away from midnight FCFS drops, kicking off a sequence of events that led to the SNKRS app we know today.
The 2025 “Galaxy” Foamposites do right by the original with the same intergalactic upper, glow-in-the-dark outsoles, and included red “Remove Before Flight” hangtag. In the lead-up to the official February 21st drop, Nike gave exclusive access to lucky SNKRS users and unlocked a SNKRS Pass in San Fransisco during All-Star Weekend. PJ Tucker’s sneaker store The Better Generation gave away a Corvette wrapped in Galaxy print, remembering when one guy traded his car for a pair on Craigslist back in 2012, and Nike opened a trading post in New York where those selected could trade their valuables for the Galaxy Foams.
