With how completely the brand has embraced Y2K aesthetics in the time since, it’s hard to process that the “Protection Pack” was New Balance’s most treasured asset as recently as 2023. Their shift towards silhouettes like the New Balance 1906R and New Balance 9060 makes it seem of a different era entirely, but some NB devotees still hold the deconstructed product line near and dear. English retailer and multi-time New Balance partner size? has you covered, as the “Protection Pack” lives on via an upcoming three-pack of New Balance 2002R colorways.
The majority of this size? “Protection Pack” collection keeps the trademark distressed & extended overlay panels in suede, those two pairs also carrying through par-for-the-course palettes of earthy brown and stealthy black & grey. The big revelation is a metallic silver colorway that keeps those topmost sections in leather, a “Space Age” take on the “Protection Pack” concept that almost feels like the halfway point between these turn-of-the-decade aesthetics and the brand’s current design language. A uniting touch across all three shoes comes with pale yellow detailing, coating the branding at the heel counter and corresponding lace options, seemingly also peeking through at the heel.
