Nike Air Max 1 “Donkey Kong” aka Big Head Origins” Releases Tomorrow

Nike Air Max 1 “Donkey Kong” aka Big Head Origins” Releases Tomorrow

Nike has a knack for tugging at for tapping into nostalgia through its creative projects. They’ve outdone themselves with the Air Max 1 Low Poly model, circling back to a very specific era of video games and masterfully referencing some of the most iconic games in history.

The groundwork for this budding series was first laid by the Air Max 1 Low Poly “Sport Red” that first debuted late last year; little did we know of the path that dotSWOOSH would take. Tomb Raider, GoldenEye 007, and Donkey Kong Country have all contributed to the evolution of gaming through their own respective styles, but they’re all tied together by this specific style of graphics that conjure up memories of days gone.

The Donkey Kong Country pair, officially dubbed “Big Head Origins”, features design elements that will resonate most with true gaming enthusiasts. The “DS” coin and banana on the insole and the hairy brown suede upper are a quick nod to the Nintendo character, but what sets these apart is the padded tongue (seen only in the “Big Head Mode”).

Nike has the Air Max 1 “Donkey Kong” lined up on SNKRS on March 26th, 2025 for $160; see a closer look here and good luck with the launch.
