In recent years, adidas has become home to one of the most eclectic yet highest-regarded group of designers in footwear, no doubt headlined by Grace Wales Bonner both in star power and Three Stripes output, but also tacking on red-hot names like Willy Chavarria.
The more conventional sneaker option here is the adidas x Chavarria Jabbar Low, a chunky modification of the hoops classic bearing an off-center flap tongue and sectioned, textured rubber toe-cap. A red-on-black colorway is in the spotlight, aligning well with the overtones of the apparel options, but an all-white can also be spotted on the adidas site. While the animal prints showcased in his Paris Fashion Week S/S preview are absent, the pointed overhaul of the model in the Chavarria Jabar Dress is nonetheless still in focus, delivered in a more conventional all-black.
Of this adidas capsule’s inspirations, Willy Chavarria shares “adidas’ place in Chicano culture is a bit of an untold story. I love sharing this iconic brand in a way that reflects how I wore it growing up and how we wear it now. […] It allowed me to capture the beauty of Brown brothers and sisters against the backdrop that is home to so many of us.”
The adidas Originals x Willy Chavarria Spring/Summer 2025 collection releases in two waves, split across May 8th and July 10th. Retail pricing for these pieces hasn’t been announced just yet, but watch willychavarria.com, adidas.com, CONFIRMED and adidas in-store locations for your chance once the release nears closer.
