Andrew Rizzo They’re here and they’re beautiful. Official images of the Air Jordan 12 “Melo” have surfaced ahead of the sneaker’s long-awaited May 17th release.
As the first true Jordan Brand athlete, Melo’s player edition bag is as deep as they come. Following MJs retirement, Melo carried the torch as the face of Jordan from the 2003-04 season onward. The Denver Nuggets star laced up multiple PEs before eventually kicking off his signature line, and this particular white and blue Air Jordan 12 is one of the most notable. Jordan Brand released an awfully similar (yet not totally identical) version of Melo’s PE in 2004, first in women’s sizing and then again in men’s a month later. Twelve years later, to much shagrin, Jordan Brand released a kid’s Jordan 12 “Melo” featuring gold eyelets.
That’s all to say that the impending May 17th release comes as the first true retro of the 2004 pair. It’s got all the makings of a hit, taken with a white leather upper, silver eyelets, and “University Blue” on the lining, spine, and outsole.
Importantly, we could very well be on the cusp of back-to-back Air Jordan 12 sellouts. Due partly to limited stock, the Flu Game 12s flew off shelves at the top of March 2025. It remains to be seen how many Melo 12s will hit stores, but these are surely on a lot of wish lists nonetheless.
