In an post-“Grinch” era, it’s not a surprise when one of the most anticipated shoes of the year is related to Kobe Bryant. What is a shock, however, is that the Mamba’s enterprise has found one of its most hyped off the court entirely with the Kobe Bryant x Nike Air Force 1 Protro “Frobe.” Following an overseas release, a wide drop is now expected for June 24th.
Though initially showcased by Vanessa Bryant to acclaim and anticipation, the arrival of retailer images really sent this shoe into the stratosphere ahead of its public release. Along with confirming the “Soft Yellow/Dusty Amethyst” palette shown at first, this shoe also includes a slew of heady details that harken to an iconic moment where a young Bryant, hampered with a broken finger, practiced in a pinney and pajama pants.
A photo of that moment takes over the insoles, which carry drop-in ReactX foam that lend this shoe its “Air Force 1 Protro” sub-head. Two oversized 8’s take over the heel, the Air Force 1 script is replaced with the Mamba’s signature, Sheath logos replace the star traction underfoot, and a set of alternate laces replicate his plaid PJs.
As mentioned above, the Kobe Bryant x Nike Air Force 1 Protro “Frobe” hits retailers on June 24th, commanding a $150 sticker price.
