Matt Varga New Balance has been at the fore of a number of dominant sneaker trends, from providing multiple faces of the tech runner movement to leading the way in the “sneaker loafer” game with the New Balance 1906L. However, their catalog does feel a tad behind in a true attendant of “low-pro” style (at least until the New Balance 204L arrives in earnest). Their strongest current embrace comes from the New Balance Minimus M10, tackling the aesthetic from a different angle entirely and possibly gaining steam as we enter Fall 2025.
To be sure, the Boston giant has put some energy behind the archival silhouette, leveraging their partnership with Action Bronson for a collab take on the model back in 2024. But as time ticks on, new colorway options are becoming more and more available. The “Urgent Red” at hand almost feels like a run-off of that project, mixing up hi-visibility rosy shades across its synthetic upper while leaving the sole in more staid tones of black, white, and grey. The outdoorsy textures and depth, initially intended for a trail running audience, now helps the silhouette stand apart from a crowded pack of “slim sole” shoes, maybe exactly what’s needed to cut through the noise.
