History Of The Air Jordan 8 “Aqua”
The Air Jordan 8 “Aqua” is an original colorway from 1993; one of three alongside the “Playoffs” and “Bugs Bunny.” Much like the recently-retro’d “Grape” Jordan 5, Michael Jordan never wore the “Aqua” 8s in a Bulls game as they didn’t (still don’t) match Chicago’s team colors. He did, however, famously lace ’em up during the 1993 NBA All-Star Game; MJ’s last before his short-lived retirement stint. The sneaker has returned twice up to this point, first in 2007 with an all-black upper that make have irked some purists. Then came a 2015 retro that’s largely regarded as one of the strongest of its era.
Breakdown Of The 2025 Air Jordan 8 “Aqua”
Detailed images of the 2025 “Aqua” Jordan 8s (as seen below) reveal a design consistent with the sneaker’s original release, although the shape is more modern. Black nubuck hops on the forefoot and straps, while ribbed grey suede looms over the heel and collar. Purple and teal treatments land on the mudguard and top of the midsole, comprising a 90s vibe that was time-appropriate then and nostalgic today. The aquatic colors mingle with yellow hits on the outsole and high-piled tongue circle, with the Jumpman logos in both areas appearing in red.
Notably, the “Aqua” 8s mark the midpoint of an OG colorway run for Mike’s eighth signature. Jordan Brand brought the “Playoffs” Jordan 8 back in 2023 and plans to retro the “Bugs Bunny” 8s later this year.
