Nike Does Its Best “Putty Dunk” Impression

A pre-SB skate release inspires this Sportswear Dunk.

Nike Does Its Best “Putty Dunk” Impression

With Nike SB continuing to trace its roots through Pro B Dunk releases, the late 1990s/early 2000s era is well within consciousness as it pertains to Peter Moore’s iconic silhouette. While the Beaverton brand’s skate banner is understandably leading in that regard, it appears Nike Sportswear is joining in on the fun with a Pro B-inspired release of its own.

We’re here reminded of the Dunk Low Pro B “Putty” (SKU: 311293-081) from 1999; one of many skateboarding Dunks released before the official establishment of Nike SB in 2002. Taken entirely in “Wolf Grey,” this SE release features two different suede textures on the overlays and base layer. There are two key design differences worth calling out, the more obvious one being grey as opposed to brown gum soles. Moreover, in a rather intriguing choice, Nike includes thin rope laces as opposed to the thick flat ones that come with Pro B Dunks.

You’d be justified to question why it’s Nike Sportswear and not Nike SB replicating the “Putty Dunk” colorway, but we’d remind you that all Pro B sneakers were, as a matter of fact, released under the Sportswear banner back in the day. Importantly, while Nike SB’s Pro B Dunks like the upcoming “Sequoia” feature the skate tooling we’re accustom to, this “Putty” Sportswear release does not.

The Nike Dunk Low “Wolf Grey” aka “Putty” is due out during the Fall 2025 shopping window, priced at $120. See official images below if you’re considering copping.
