Matt Varga Laden with anniversary celebrations, the 11 By Boris Bidjan Saberi x Reebok Instapump Fury, teased since March, is now somewhat of a bittersweet occurrence. While the shoe is still presented to ring in the model’s 30th year on shelves and a decade after the pair last joined up for a 24Kilates-assisted take on the basketball model, the German designer’s eponymous label announced it’d be closing its doors by the end of July.
While the brand confirmed that they’d continue operations in a reimagined/evolved form going forward, this nonetheless marks the closing salvo for 11BBS as we currently understand it. For what it’s worth, this final footwear chapter makes the most of the opportunity, spread across two contrasting monochromatic executions in all-white and in black.
Reportedly, the initial brief for the collaboration tasked Saberi with totally transforming the Instapump Fury, a concept that the designer admits was partially abandoned in the design process. Instead, the culture of ’90s skaters influences this design and leads to the reinforced touches throughout, including the new strap towards the toe, synthetic sidewall panelling, and dotted textures throughout. Finally, leaving the most evident for last, 11BBS brings the height of the shoe up, leaving this Reebok LTD product closer to a Mid than mainline editions.
