It’s sadly tough competition, but amid a wave of bad headlines in the sneaker retail space, few were as heartbreaking as the controversy surrounding Boston’s Bodega. Unlike some of their less fortunate peers who had to shutter their doors completely, Bodega remains committed to inching their way back, starting with a pared down re-opening of their LA location, furthered with brandishing their webstore again, and additionally realized with the restart of their collaborative arm earlier this year alongside Clarks.
A frequent collaborative partner for a decade plus, we’re getting closer to “business as usual” as Bodega unveils their latest work, a special do-up of the PUMA Suede. Enlisted to help tee of the PUMA King Indoor towards the end of 2024, the retailer now chalks off one of its first earnest collabs with the Big Cat since a three-part series let loose at the start of the 2010s.
While simplistic in its palette, the Bodega PUMA Suede doesn’t spare any details aesthetically, beginning with a woody combination of forest green suede and textured brown sole units. The standout feature comes at the quarter, though, where the Formstrip is replaced by a corded lace and loop system where the wearer can create their own pattern.
In promo shots, the brand displays something a “default” arrangement that approximates the Formstrip, but the possibilities are truly endless. Hearty detailing like a cross-stitched interruption in the tongue, visible sitching down the eye-lets, and a cork insole close out this offering.
