Some brands need splashy collaborations to meet trends. All ASICS needs to do is tap Kiko Kostadinov on the shoulder. In a moment where we’ve seen every brand scramble to go form-radical, ushering mules, loafers, and slip-ons into athletic catalogs, the Bulgarian multi-hyphenate has been at the vanguard of experimental design the whole way. One of his wilder products, the ASICS Novalis GEL-Styrax, now issues its next wave following an initial three-pack.
A slip-on variation on Kostadinov’s GEL-Teremoa, the maximalist, throwback design language remains on this silhouette, best exemplified by the chunky, molded aesthetics of the sole unit that come to a head with the reflective GEL cage at the heel. The big development with this two-pack is the upper, swerving away from the linework that defined the initial three into a diamond print, shifting between the cooler side of the color wheel on one pair and an almost collegiate brown/orange on its counterpart. ASICS Novalis branding sits above the ASICS logo that engulfs the quarter for a final reminder of who’s responsible here.
The Kiko Kostadinov x ASICS NOVALIS GEL-Styrax will likely to touch down soon stateside, having just dropped in the EU. A $250 MSRP or equivalent is expected.
