Andrew Rizzo Since 2020, Nike has demonstrated its commitment to HBCUs through the Yardrunners program, created to celebrate the legacies of historically Black colleges and universities with footwear designed by alumni. Now in its 5th anniversary year, the program is marking the occasion with its most ambitious release yet: a full lineup of four Air Max 95s, each paying tribute to a different HBCU.
The featured schools are Morehouse, FAMU, Spelman, and Norfolk State. While Nike hasn’t confirmed which alumni were involved in the designs, each pair follows a consistent blueprint — white midsoles, black tongues and linings — before branching out with colors and textures that honor each institution’s identity. The detailing is thoughtful:
– Morehouse pairs tiger-inspired red and black stripes with bold accents.
– FAMU takes on green reptilian textures, a clear nod to the Rattler.
– Spelman celebrates the jaguar with spotted dark and light blue suede.
– Norfolk State opts for understated yellow hairy suede, representing Mr. Spartan.
Every sneaker comes dressed with school letter logos and founding years on the tongues, custom insoles with full school names, and even graphic treatments on the visible Air cushioning that mirror each pair’s overlay patterns (Norfolk State being the lone exception).
All four Nike Air Max 95 “HBCU Pack” styles are expected to launch at NBHD retailers on October 11th and on Nike SNKRS on October 14th, 2025 for $200 each.
