Among them is the Jordan 11 “Tokyo,” one of five regional pairs alongside the Jordan 11 “China” and versions for Las Vegas, Atlanta, and Houston.
Opinions are subjective, but most will agree that the “Tokyo” 11s are the most wearable among Jordan Brand’s regionally inspired slate. The headlining feature lives on the tongue, where Jordan Brand checks in with a graphic inspired by the Japanese serow — incorporating both Japanese fauna and commentary on MJ being the greatest basketball player of all time. The upper balances suede at the forefoot with nubuck around the heel, complete with subtle edge piping as a way to connect vintage and modern themes in Japanese fashion. The mudguard features a soft grey gradient, while the outsole nods to MJ’s six NBA championships with a roadmap-inspired graphic.
Tokyo, of course, needs no justification for its inclusion in Jordan Brand’s regional Air Jordan 11 series. The Japanese capital has long played a key role in the sneaker world, particularly when it comes to Nike and Jordan Brand. Regional-exclusive releases like the CO.JP Air Jordan 1 “Japan” in 2001 and the Air Jordan 5 “Tokyo” in 2011 (which just recently returned) helped write one of the most important chapters in sneaker history. More recently, Jordan Brand opened its first Japanese Jordan World of Flight store in Tokyo in 2023. The city is also home to key partners like Hiroshi Fujiwara’s Fragment Design — currently a hot topic thanks to Travis Scott shoes and the upcoming Union Fragment Air Jordan 1 trio set for 2026.
