No matter where you look, all the biggest sneaker brands are hard at work outfitting their most popular models for the cooler months. Nike is prepping a lineup of “Flax” Air Force 1s, New Balance is bringing GORE-TEX and Cordura to its tech runners, and adidas is poised to release a new boot-inspired style of the quintessential Samba. Now it’s ASICS’ turn, as the Japanese sneaker brand rolls out an icy GORE-TEX version of the GEL-Nimbus 10.1 hybrid silhouette.
Most GORE-TEX sneakers that cross our desk feature flush, tight-knit exteriors designed to repel moisture. Not this GEL-Nimbus 10.1. Instead, it appears the model incorporates GORE-TEX underlays to preserve its signature airy mesh aesthetic. GORE-TEX branding appears in minty green in two locations: first on the heel of the lateral side and again in repeating fashion on the medial underlay. The rest of the design takes a fittingly icy approach, complete with a white leather toe, white mesh, and a hazy “Fjord Grey” shade across the sidewalls and Kayano 14 sole unit.
The ASICS GEL-Nimbus 10.1 GORE-TEX “Fjord Grey” is available now via ASICS for $210 — considerably more than the standard version’s retail price. It’s possible, if not likely, that additional GORE-TEX styles will emerge as we delve deeper into autumn.
