Rarely-seen samples come to light again.

Would You Wear Nike Foamposite Snowboard Boots?

The Nike archive is rife with samples that never made it into production — some of which fall into the unequivocally weird category.

We know Nike Foamposite footwear for its legacy on the basketball court and the streets, but the Beaverton brand has also revisited the genre in winter boot form several times throughout its history. Nike ACG debuted a model called the Positeboot in the 2000s, and the Nike Sportswear division quietly trotted out Foamposite boot versions of the Foamposite One and even the Air Bakin (not typically a Foamposite-based sneaker) in the 2010s. Even more niche, Nike also experimented with a snowboard boot version of the Foamposite One that ultimately never released.

Likely created in the 2010s, the Foamposite Snowboard Boot features a hefty Foamposite exterior, rugged winter-ready tread suitable for snow, and a tall, ankle-hugging build for added support. At its core, the model takes after the Nike Kaiju Snowboarding Boot, which debuted in 2010. The boot was created by former Nike employee Scott Keating, who once led the Nike Snowboarding group before Nike closed the division. The camo colorway shown below (1 of 2) made the rounds online a few years back, but the black pair (1 of 10) hasn’t been seen until now. There was also a gold camo version that surfaced when a former Nike employee listed the pair online, reportedly asking $2,650.

To state the obvious, there are no plans for Nike to ever release these. Still, they offer a rare glimpse into the kind of behind-the-scenes experimentation that goes on in Beaverton.
