Not unlike what we see time and again with athletes and celebrities, the Nike Dunk went from overrated to overhated in just a few short years. Rather than launch into a whole thinkpiece about the Dunk’s recent history, we’ll lead with two simple notes: the Nike Dunk is still a solid sneaker, and you should wear what you want — not what others (even us) deem cool.

For Holiday 2025, Nike is bringing back the Dunk High “St. John’s.” First released in 1985 as part of Nike Basketball’s “Be True To Your School” series, the sneaker pairs a crisp white base with bold red leather overlays. High-top versions of this colorway most recently hit shelves in 2016 and 2022, while the “St. John’s” Dunk Low has returned in a few different forms since 2023.
