adidas Is Dropping A Samba Inspired By Taiwanese Fried Chicken

Footwear informed by food fads is hardly a fresh invention — see the litany of Matcha-inspired kicks that have graced our homepage in the past year and change. However, adidas Originals is getting ahead of the curve. Their Taiwanese arm is taking on the country’s XXL fried chicken, nodding to the flattened fare with a do-up of the adidas Samba.

Taking almost all of its cues from the regional delicacy, you’ll spot the golden brown exteriors of the street food reflected on similarly coated collars, gum soles, and crackly suede Three Stripes branding. Its traditional packaging informs the white and red layout of the rest of the uppers, while a cutesy touch crops up with furry XL lace options, no doubt aimed at adapting the feathery source. While our name and stated purpose here mean the shoes themselves are the highlight, note that we’ll also see a range of accessories and apparel accompany this shoe, spread out across Three Stripe-laden tees, coin purses, and tote bags, the latter coming with a furry Trefoil charm.

The adidas Samba featured here is confirmed to be a Taiwan exclusive, but they’re still plenty intriguing to take in from afar, even if you aren’t in the region. Catch official shots included below.
