After a vaunted run in his signature line that saw each of his signatures from IV to VIII embrace a low cut, Eric Avar and Kobe Bryant flipped the script, returning to a high build with the Nike Kobe 9. Though divisive in its original formulation, eventually the two leads and the Nike design team returned to form, maintaining the Flyknit build from the Kobe 9 proper for the Kobe 9 Elite Low. Some ten years after its initial drop, the silhouette is back in action as the newest face in the Protro line.

The overarching narrative for the Kobe 9 centered on the Mamba’s masterful persona on the court, often reaching back to creative geniuses like Pablo Picasso for the “Inspiration,” Michelangelo for the “Detail,” and Beethoven for the… well, the “Beethoven.” Michael Jackson’s artistry is again in focus as the “Moonwalker” returns to shelves, this time bearing upgraded traction underfoot and a switch to React cushioning to befit its Protro title.
