The “gorpcore” aesthetic has had its place in the sneaker world throughout the past few years, and unsurprisingly, fall and winter are when the outdoorsy, utilitarian look truly flourishes. For its part, ASICS has been revisiting the GEL-Nimbus 10.1 in weather-ready, water-resistant GORE-TEX makeups for the cooler months, starting with an icy white and blue colorway and now continuing with a striking black and gold edition dubbed “Black Pepper.”
The GEL-Nimbus 10.1 is one of ASICS’ most important tech runners at the moment, or at least that’s how the Japanese brand wants it to be. The model has seen tons of collaborations (see the upcoming Marvel vs. Capcom x Kith collection), steady general releases, and now a winter-ready spinoff among other styles. The upper of 2008’s GEL-Nimbus 10 is paired with the sole unit of the ubiquitous GEL-Kayano 14, this pair featuring a black mesh base, gold overlays, and subtle maroon accents on the lace loops. Things stay understated underfoot with khaki-colored GEL capsules set within a khaki midsole. This GORE-TEX edition doesn’t stray far from the standard version visually, save for new markings on the heel and lateral side. A water-resistant sock liner keeps feet dry no matter the weather or terrain.
The ASICS GEL-Nimbus 10.1 GORE-TEX “Black Pepper” releases soon via the ASICS website for $210 USD. See official images below if you’re considering copping.
