Andrew Rizzo Melitta Baumeister’s talent for sculptural, avant-garde, and experimental fashion earned her Cooper Hewitt’s National Design Award earlier this year, and the increased attention from potential brand partners that comes with that kind of recognition. In October, the German-born, New York based designer teamed up with Nike for her debut sportswear collection titled “Run Like No One Is Watching.” Inside emerged her first ever sneaker: a Nike Vomero Premium made to look scorched in orange with heavy pre-distressing.
It’s worth noting that this is just the latest effort by Nike to merge its performance runners with the world of high fashion, an understandable move given the rise of elevated sportswear in recent years. The brand recently launched a Swarovski capsule featuring two models, including the viral Pegasus Premium, and collaborated with the Sashiko Gals on a custom Vomero Plus pair worn by Apple CEO Tim Cook (just before the collective officially signed on with New Balance).
At its core, Baumeister’s Vomero Premium features a predominantly orange colorway with black detailing and a tan sockliner, matching Nike’s classic box color and tying neatly into the theme of her broader apparel capsule. The sneaker is deliberately made to look scorched, featuring liberal black distressing across the upper, dual ZoomX/Air Zoom midsole, and even the laces. The outsole hides a playful Easter egg as well, with eye graphics placed inside the forefoot and heel cutouts.
No release date for the Melitta Baumeister x Nike Vomero Premium has been announced, but the full capsule is expected to arrive Spring 2026. Nike veteran Frank Cooker recently teased the sneaker on his IG Story, which hints that it may land earlier in the season (around January maybe).
