Andrew Rizzo With the thick of winter approaching, New Balance is revisiting one of its most popular tech runners in a trio of GORE-TEX styles slated for Spring 2026.
The New Balance 2002R has seen its fair share of GORE-TEX makeovers over the years, but by our count, this marks the first time the 1906R has received the waterproof treatment. The model has seen multiple Cordura series in the past, though those are not fully waterproof in the way GORE-TEX is.
Three straightforward looks are on tap: grey and khaki colorways featuring blue ABZORB SBS pods, and a clean all-black option. All three pairs fall under the “no-sew” umbrella, utilizing slim synthetic overlays in place of the leather and suede panels found on most 1906Rs. N-lock logos sit at the quarter, pull laces allow for easy on and off, and GORE-TEX tags extend from the collar so as to signal the material upgrade.
