The $410 “Made In Italy” adidas Superstar Lux Comes With A Leather Shell Toe

No silhouette in the adidas archive has received more premium makeovers than the Superstar. From heralded anniversary releases to the impending $850 A-TYPE Superstar, adidas’ iconic shell-toe’d model has long served as a vessel for pushing into the higher end of the fashion spectrum, both in quality and in price.

Following a likeminded Gazelle Indoor duo earlier this year, the Superstar has surfaced in a Lux “Made in Italy” style featuring premium materials and a new platformed construction. The model’s usual midsole is here replaced by a more formal setup with leather welting and crepe-like tread underfoot, adding in luxury what it sacrifices in traction. Locally sourced black Italian leather covers the entire upper, including the shell toe itself, where rubber is swapped out in favor of pleated leather. A beige sock liner provides the only break from the otherwise all-black palette.

Those upgrades help justify a $410 price tag, roughly four times the cost of the standard Superstar. Whether that’s a price consumers are willing to swallow remains to be seen. For what it’s worth, I spotted the “Made in Italy” Gazelles from earlier this year at outlets just a few months ago, so patience could pay off if you’re willing to risk missing out.

For those who want them at retail, the Superstar Lux “Black” releases via adidas on January 1st, 2026. See official images below and hit our Sneaker Release Dates page to browse more upcoming drops from the Three Stripes.
