Matt Varga The hoops of old are the hoops of the future. Obviously, that tautology is best evidenced by Beaverton’s push into the next century via (aptly titled) kicks like the GT Future. On top of that, the sportswear giant continues to rummage in the attic for the archival shoes that spoke to maximalist, next-gen design: the Nike Flightposite now stands as the latest in that crate-digging initiative.
Obviously part of Nike’s inline late 90s/early 2000s performance family, the Flightposite III added additional maximalist flair onto its tank-like Foamposite body with circular pods on the sidewalls, arguably its defining design aspect. Two straps, one at the forefoot and a magnet-closure counterpart up top, added lateral containment. Though the model boasts the same bootie interior, it did structurally mark a shift away from the full-length sock security of the 1 and 2. Expected to drop in a total of three colorways two decades after their release, the Flightposite 3 joins the original Flightposite, Tim Duncan’s Total Foamposite Max, and the Shox BB4 (among others) as modern bring-backs from around the turn of the century.
Following its original run on shelves, when titans like Allan Houston strapped up the silhouette, the Flightposite 3 made its most significant second-wind splash on the feet of Montrezl Harrell and PJ Tucker, who brought out original pairs in their own notorious jaunts through sneaker history.
Currently, the Nike Air Flightposite 3 is expected to release sometime in the Spring ’27 window, a stretch from the start of the year to March. Though retail pricing is currently unknown, three color options are queued up. Catch shots of the originals included below.
