Matt Varga Quiet as kept (no pun intended), Song For The Mute has become one of adidas’ most prolific partners, the Australian label bringing their refined touch to a slew of adidas classics over the past few years. In that time, they’ve turned their attention from the tech runner space to the slim-sole movement, with recent efforts inducting the Taekwondo, adiZero PR, and a still hotly-awaited slouchy redux of the adidas Samba.
As we continue to look forward to that Fall/Winter debut and on the heels of a one-off Supernova Rise 3, the adidas x Song For The Mute partnership now affixes its gaze on two underrated heroes: the Samba Freizeit and the Tokyo. For the former, it’s biggest moment to date has likely come with the Spongebob Squarepants collab that pinned it as an integral piece of the fry cook’s uniform. The lugged offshoot of the base icon sticks to workwear-friendly vibes for SFTM’s two colorways; tumbled black and brown leather combine with off-white Three Stripes and co-branding hits before closing with gilded eyelets.
The Tokyo brings much more immediate character to the table, no doubt owing to the contrast white eyelets and trim, but also for all three colorway’s overall embrace of lighter tonality. A true divergence for the Canadian company is this light blue edition, while a tender tan and rich brown hold onto their trademark earthy hues even if they still deliver brighter overall palettes.
The Song For The Mute x adidas Samba Freizit + Tokyo collection releases on May 15th. Retail pricing hasn’t come to light just yet. While we await those details, you can catch official images via the galleries below.
