New build, new me.

The New Balance 1000D Changes Shape With This “Castlerock” Colorway

You can never accuse the Boston brand of resting on its laurels. Though silhouettes like the New Balance 1906R and 2002R were street-level titans in their “default” layouts, the American giant forged ahead even with that success guaranteed. The latter has been the most prolific in ushering in offshoot builds, with D, A, L, F, U, and W initialisms pushing the lifestyle shoe into just-adjacent and far-flung new lives.

That same treatment has branched over to its catalog peers, with the New Balance 1890 particularly noticeable for unveiling a moccasin reinvention before we even got to know its straightforward everyday arrangement. Now, another silhouette steps into the ring.

The New Balance 1000D, pictured here for the first time in a “Castlerock” makeover, changes both the materiality and the contours from the chunky bring-back. On top of crackly suede overlays, a new fabric mesh foundation takes over the sneaker, flattening out what’s usually a pronounced lacestay panel and running it into something closer to an exterior shell. Further industrial airs come into play with a faux-aged midsole and pre-distressed traction, making good on the “Distressed” alluded to in its new name.

The New Balance 1000D “Castlerock” should be hitting NewBalance.com and partnering retailers shortly. Note a new $170 retail price for this offshoot edition. As we await firmer details, catch official images below and watch our Sneaker Release Dates page to stay in the loop on the latest from the newswire.
