Matt Varga Be it Satoshi Nakamoto’s output or Vans’ inline efforts, the California company and its dedicated fans have found that any pair with gems embedded into it will whip the fanbase into a fervor. Yet truly, the “Pearlized” concept that’s taken the brand to new heights in the past few years has more to offer than just bedazzled uppers.
Follow-ups to the original few “Pearlized,” many of which have been headed by erstwhile Vans designer Greg Betty, have pushed the envelope in terms of distressing and pre-wear, obviously a hallmark of that series with its pre-scuffed midsoles. Here we have the Old Skool 36 “Paint Splatter,” a two-pack that should ring familiar for those who copped or tried their hand at the Old Skool 36 “Charms,” a woven counterpart to the Chanel-inspired Authentic.
These two pairs simplify the formula, taking the paint splatters from that trio and applying them to a staid black and white, allowing that touch to entirely speak for itself. “Turtledove” uppers and an olive Sidestripe define the lighter of the two, before “Charcoal” dark grey and off-white take up the other.
The Vans Old Skool 36 “Paint Splatter” is scheduled for an overseas release on June 1st, exclusively via Billy’s Ent. Details on when to expect a wider Vans launch is still opaque for the moment.
