The slip-on movement is here to stay. Zillennials and younger have made it abundantly clear they’re unwilling to sacrifice comfort for fashion, and sneaker brands have responded by completely reinventing the category, producing hits like the Nike Mind 001 in the process. It’s not a trend that plays naturally to Jordan Brand’s strengths, the Jumpman having long relied on intangibles like history and “aura” to move product. But they haven’t been ignoring the direction either, revisiting a number of slides and comfort-focused models from the past while simultaneously pushing into new territory.
Enter the Jordan Future Mule, a new streamlined slip-on that reads as a potential Birkenstock competitor. Layered suede panels with curved edges form the upper, while a chunky, curved sole unit promises a comfortable ride underfoot. Longtime readers will recall the uber-popular Jordan Future basketball shoe from 2014, though the mule shares nothing with that model beyond a similarly pared-back aesthetic. The sole actually gives off a slight Air Jordan 14 impression thanks to the horizontal lines at the midfoot.
