Nike Plays With Depth On These Two Classic Air Force 1 Low Colorways

Much as we may wish we did, we don’t have unfettered access to Nike’s financials. Yet even without being able to pore over firm documents, statements from previous leadership and the fact that simple palette swaps for the Air Force 1 have dried up show us one thing loud and clear; something wasn’t working with the brand’s strategy regarding the Uptown.

To their credit, Nike has seemingly pulled off a full-scale pivot with Bruce Kilgore’s design. The day-to-day newswire has centered on material experimentation, while bigger swings like the Nike Air Force 1 ’01 demonstrate that the silhouette has the ability to capture the attention of the wider public. The two pairs of Nike Air Force 1s at hand settle in closer to the former, though their “Triple White” and “Triple Black” palettes may belie their biggest steps forward. Look to the toe and to the tongue for the real intrigue.

At the front, the usual flush stitching instead juts upward for some 3-D depth, while on the branding, debossed Nike Air stamps take the opposite approach. No doubt, these are subtler changes to the base composition, so “Metallic Gold” trim on the white and “Metallic Silver” on the black help imbue a classier appearance to the AF1 if you’re not satisfied by those hardware tweaks.

The Nike Air Force 1 “Triple Black” and “Triple White” should be coming to Nike channels, retailing close to the standard $125 sticker price.
