An Original Air Jordan 10 “Dirty Bred” Sample Has Emerged

Following the release calendar contemporaneously is one thing, but the real sneaker diehards take a further step in their footwear affinity, delving into forums, archive articles, and interviews to deepen their understanding. If those are proverbial mining exercises, the real gold nuggets are samples, with the true payloads being unreleased pairs from the original era. One of those rare occasions when we’ve got our cart full comes as an Air Jordan 10 “Dirty Bred” sample comes to light.

Reportedly a 1995 pair, created for the Air Jordan 10‘s OG market run but nonetheless never pursued by the powers that be, the “Dirty Bred” title comes to pass with a two-tone split between jet black and “True Red.” The purpose of this pair is immediately evident, obviously connecting to the Chicago Bulls color scheme that’s been integral to all Retro Jordans, presenting almost as a contrast to the AJ10’s essential “Chicago” the way that the “Banned” did for the Air Jordan 1. Durabuck uppers a la the “Shadow” further stand apart from the leather bodies that other ’95/’96 releases like the “City Pack” built off of.

Part of the intrigue with this sample edition is how the “Dirty Bred” concept became part of the consciousness in the 2010s and beyond. Eventually, Jordan Brand would invest themselves in this stealthy colorway via the Air Jordan 13, but blacking out the midsoles on the Air Jordan 11 or the 10 itself was one of the more frequent custom designs you’d see on social media. The fact that it could’ve been a sanctioned part of the canon during Jordan’s playing days sets up a ton of “butterfly effect” possibilities if it had seen the light of day; could this original colorway have brought other offshoots to the market even earlier?

In similar fashion, while we’d usually write off unreleased fare of this caliber as being lost to history, Jordan Brand has mined its own vault for public releases in recent years (the Jordan 6 “Salesman,” the Jordan 3 “Citrus.”) This now adds a high-heat potentiality to the Air Jordan 10’s future plans, but for now, this is a museum piece only.
