The region-exclusive is back in a big way, especially when it comes to Nike, Inc. From high-level collaborations like the Levi’s Air Jordan 3, keeping its “City of Angels” colorway limited to Angelinos, to the various NYC-only efforts centered around the Knicks championship, more than ever, highlighting major metropolises’ individual culture has been a priority throughout the past year and change. Following the Air Jordan 11 “City Pack” which spread the love to Asia-Pacific, the Air Jordan 12 “Sumo” pops as the next in that lineage.
This is a shoe that wasn’t tipped off through the usual leak and early info channels, unexpectedly appearing on atmos’ social channels as they gear up for an exclusive launch. Bearing a lot of resemblance to the Air Jordan 12 “Field Purple” from 2023, the silhouette’s standard two-tone build is in focus again, resulting in a moody black/purple leather foundation.
It’s in the details where the Air Jordan 12 “Sumo” really begins to shine, as laureled branding on the tongue, embossed leather inspired by “The Great Wave off Kanagawa,” custom insoles, stylized “AIR JORDAN” text on the heel, and a litany of packaging aspects demonstrate. To further distinguish this limited edition from 2023’s general release counterpart, speckled purple/gold outsoles add another layer of complexity to this edition.
