Andrew Rizzo Nike Running has something special in store for the Chicago Marathon this October. The Beaverton brand is releasing the Vomero Premium, one of its premier high-mileage trainers, in a special makeup that swaps the model’s usual Uptempo-inspired “Air” text for “Chi,” set to release Fall 2026.
New Balance and adidas dominate most of the major marathon footwear sponsorships, with Nike instead concentrating its efforts on guerrilla marketing (aka, stealing the show) and outfitting some of the world’s best long-distance runners in its shoes. That said, the Swoosh has had its name attached to the Chicago Marathon since 2008.
As for this special-edition Vomero Premium, we’re immediately reminded of the Nike Air More Uptempo “Chicago,” which likewise replaces the model’s signature “Air” text with “Chi.” That key change is accompanied by an oceanic (or, in this case, lacustrine) palette of “Energy/Arctic Green/Deep Teal/Green Strike,” doing well to complement the waters of Lake Michigan and the Chicago River.
While clearly timed to the Chicago Marathon in October, do note that the Vomero Premium is not touted as a marathon shoe, but rather a high-mileage trainer designed to get you ready for the actual competitive run. That’s not to say you can’t lace ’em up on race day, but serious competitors should look to carbon-plated models like the Alphafly 3 and Vaporfly 4.
