The state of the James empire is very much in flux. After experiencing the first-ever father-son minutes in NBA history on the Los Angeles Lakers, LeBron the Elder has changed coasts. It leaves his firstborn son in Hollywood, set to play for the first time without his father on the roster. For the conspiratorially minded, head coach JJ Redick has already publicly backed the USC product, stamping him as “a part of [LA’s] future.”

Though their destinies may no longer be tied together on the hardwood, Bronny and LeBron remain linked in footwear. The younger James has carved out a niche via “player exclusive” versions of the Nike LeBron Witness 9, a takedown series that’s run alongside The King’s earnest sig shoes for more than a decade. For his latest, #9 calls up oil slick textures, leaving the siding of this shoe with lightened shimmering finishes. Pink pops in the two-tone laces deliver on a favored Bronny shade, as does the hi-vis combination of green and pink in the double Swoosh.
