Matt Varga New Balance’s catalog of late has been decidedly hydra-like. Though a given model may recede from the brand’s offerings (like the New Balance 550, almost unattainable on a general release level), there have been a swath of new silhouettes ready to take its place. In that effort, they’ve trotted out new formulations to take on disparate verticals, from hybrid formal to super-stacked everyday running. Yet special attention continues to be paid to the “tech runner” vertical, as the New Balance 1890 clearly demonstrates.
Pulling together an earnest performance runner of old in the 8090’s uppers with the ever-present 2002 tooling underfoot, the silhouette’s inline journey is only beginning. A heavy collab slate with Joe Freshgoods, JJJJound, Action Bronson, and Stone Island gave way to some of our initial GR looks, last dropping off a trio of neutral-toned variations. The New Balance 1890 “Burgundy” featured here begins to tease a moodier direction, nearly united from heel to toe in the rich, fiery hue. Teasing fresh potential blocking opportunities, the teardrop heel cage and collar are the only spots that diverge in jet black, while light grey outlines around the overlays align with the highlight “N” logo on the quarters.
Expect the New Balance 1890 “Burgundy” to hit shelves in the coming months as part of the brand’s ongoing Fall/Winter 2026 slate. The model’s usual $190 sticker price will likely be in tow once this pair touches down.
