This is the exact sort of thing Nike needs to work into its regular Sportswear planning. Being the official licensor for the NFL is a cheat code the Beaverton brand has historically been bashful about taking advantage of on the footwear front, dropping large league-wide running collections but generally avoiding the true lifestyle realm. This year has been different, though. On the heels of an Air Max 90 “NFL Rivalries” pack comes a new collection of Astrograbber styles for Fall/Winter 2026, beginning to unravel here with official images of five team-inspired colorways.
To the uninitiated, the Astrograbber released in the 1970s as one of Nike’s first-ever turf shoes, designed by Bill Bowerman for early synthetic AstroTurf fields. The San Francisco 49ers, Los Angeles Rams, Kansas City Chiefs, Philadelphia Eagles, and Dallas Cowboys make up this initial batch, each team receiving its own style with its own quirks. While team-inspired packs of this nature often stick to the same materials and color blocking, this one’s an exception. The 49ers and Cowboys pairs both opt for shiny leather finishes, while the Rams and Chiefs go with nylon uppers. The Eagles style is an anomaly with a green chenille Swoosh over white leather.
One throughline is the tongue, each pair arriving with its own team pennant draped over the top. Nike builds on that defining quality with pennant accessories included alongside every style, a nice little collector’s item to go with the shoes themselves.

Nike’s recent communications have made clear that the brand wants to “return to sport.” Forays and even successes in the lifestyle realm exposed some vulnerabilities in the Swoosh’s main business, which it will seek to tackle with a focus on new innovations over the coming years. Given lifestyle shoes account for a huge number on the balance sheet, they might as well play a part in supporting the “main thing.” Making releases for defined audiences such as sports fanbases, who you know care about athletics in at least one way, seems like a safer, more integrated business practice than chasing the avant-garde crowd, for example. But I digress.
No release info for the Nike Astrograbber “NFL” pack has been announced yet, though Fall/Winter 2026 seems like the most likely window. It’s possible, if not likely, that a few more teams get added before the pack begins to roll out. Also note that none of these five appeared in the aforementioned “NFL Rivalries” pack from earlier this year, suggesting Nike may be splitting things up across different lifestyle packs inspired by different teams, with the end goal being to get to all 32 at some point.
