Matt Varga Given how synonymous he was with the Los Angeles Lakers and his relentless drive towards results, it was impossible to imagine what Kobe Bryant’s post-playing career would look like as we worked through his final seasons in the league. His professional life was one thing, but Bryant and Nike had something in mind for his footwear empire even as he stopped logging minutes as a pro. The Nike Kobe AD is now getting some serious shine once again as it enters the late legend’s Protro program, revealing official images of the OG “Ruthless Precision” colorway returning to shelves for the first time.
Originally dropped on November 22nd, 2016, this Protro drop is back in stores exactly ten years later. Its colorway partially leans into mismatched aesthetics Kobe had toyed with previously, famously featured on the Kobe 8 “What The.” Flip from medial to lateral sides to see this shoe toggle between dark grey and white midsoles, adding some contrast to the iridescent finishes at the heart of this shoe, utilized on the heel cup.
In reimagining the Kobe AD for the modern game, Nike added Protro touches including the addition of ZoomX cushioning in the forefoot and Air Zoom in the heel. A fresh midfoot shank adds stability, the traction pattern is updated, and overall the materials vie for a more lightweight feel.
The Nike Kobe AD Protro “Ruthless Precision” is expected to drop on November 22nd, retailing for $155. We’ll have any additional launch info hosted on our Sneaker Release Dates page.
