While the full extent of Tracy McGrady’s talent will forever be one of the NBA’s grandest “What if?” cases, the legacy of the 6′ 8″ guard’s adidas T-Mac line has gone down as classic. Ahead of the 2022 All-Star Game in Cleveland, the Three Stripes has teased a 20th anniversary retro of McGrady’s choice of footwear during the 2002 event in Philadelphia.
Although McGrady couldn’t lead the Eastern Conference team to a win, the Orlando Magic forward at the time scored 25 points off the bench. Yet, the February 10th, 2002 game perhaps lives on in history because of a ridiculous self-pass off the backboard that McGrady ended up dunking. There’s no telling if the shimmering metallic silver adidas basketball sneakers he wore that night led him to score that way off the break, but the shoes were surely appropriate of the bold move. Black shell-toe-like detailing appears at the forefoot and heel of the pair, while an embroidered “20” and “2002” on the lateral heel and spine, respectively, mark both the T-Mac 1 colorway and All-Star Game’s 20th anniversaries.
Enjoy official images of McGrady’s first signature sneaker here below, and anticipate an adidas.com launch around February 2022.
