Nike SB is toying with a set of throwback MLB colorways in 2022, as we’ve already seen a Dunk Low dressed in the maroon and powder blue donned by the Philadelphia Phillies in eras prior. Another NL East franchise will be joining as we get a first look at a Nike SB Dunk High “Mets”.
Dressed in their signature Away grey uniforms, Nike SB adds the double-layered Swoosh with exposed stitching to mimic the authentic jersey patches used for the player names and team logos. On the interior side of the tongue is a purple circle with a number 7, an obvious nod to the 7-train that connects the Willets Point Blvd. station to either Flushing Main St. or Hudson Yards. The opposite tongue features a red apple with a miniature Mets skyline logo with “Home Run”, a call-out to the stadium’s giant apple at center field that pops up while a Home player rounds the bases after blasting a no-doubter.
While these are clearly a must for any fan of the Metropolitans, he connection that Nike SB has with the New York Mets starts all the way back in 2002 with the first-ever series of SB Dunks. Danny Supasirirat aka Danna Supa, given the opportunity to color his own Dunk model, quickly looked to New York sports teams for inspiration; he arrived at an orange blaze and game royal colorway with white, quickly appealing to the New York skate community.
