Once a forgotten relic of the past, the Nike Air Max 96 II is now included within the Swoosh’s main roster of products. The silhouette hasn’t overshadowed some of its predecessors in terms of popularity and collaborations, but it’s been gradually building out its own retro roster since returning to the scene in early 2021.
The mid-1990s design features a busy upper, with a series of synthetic leather panels situated atop a breathable mesh base. Both components are clad in a pitch-“Black” tone that sets the stage for both “Metallic Silver” and light grey accents. Profile swooshes and collar lining indulge in the latter tone, while strips around the toe and along forefoot deviate in a darker shade that illuminates under the proper lightning conditions; detailing on the tongue and heel follow suit. Underfoot, Air Max units keep things simple in “Black” as well, while surrounding foam counterparts opt for stark “White” contrast. Accompanying tread harkens back to Nike Running heritage given its waffle pattern and mostly dark arrangement.
