Michael Le Thanks to Reebok, Maison Margiela‘s beloved motifs and methods have found new homes. The collaboration — though restrained in its colorways — has completely transformed beloved silhouettes like the Instapump Fury and Club C, dressing them with everything from Tabi toes to trompe l’oeil. And back in March, the labels debuted their “Memory Of” collection, which is soon to add the Question Mid, Zig 3D Storm, and Instapump Fury to its catalog.
Signature to the luxury fashion house, the concept of “Memory Of” evokes a familiar impression through deconstruction. “It is the visual recollection of an object or feeling that is no longer materially visible,” the label states. As its applied to Reebok’s classics, the technique uncovers details previously nonvisible, reinventing what is already deeply engrained in our memories.
The Question Mid, Zig 3D Storm, And Instapump Fury
The Question Mid is structurally shuffled, displacing the pattern pieces to reveal the seam allowance. What’s more, the lace loops are shifted towards the middle, the eyelets are used similar to ghillies, and the construction itself is cut to expose the foam inside.
Everything but the sole of the accompanying Zig 3D Storm is inverted, better showcasing the molded heel padding and spliced tongue. Additionally, the footwear brand’s Vector logo is laid across the toe in frayed cotton twill and transparent windows are inserted just above the midsole.
Lastly, the Instapump Fury rounds out the capsule, fashioned in a way reminiscent of an exploded-view drawing. This highlights many of the silhouette’s components: the heel piece is remodeled with flexible bridges; the upper’s layers are peeled away, putting its internals in view; and the mudguard is stripped of seams so as to amplify the 3D effect the inflating bladder creates.
Release Info
All three of the above-mentioned shoes will be available in black and white colorways. Priced at $400 USD each, the collection will release through maisonmargiela.com and Reebok.com/maison_margiela beginning May 20th.
