Jared Ebanks Having taken inspiration from her battle with Lyme disease and the celebration of self through The Swooshes “Be True” campaign, Nike Basketball’s first women’s signature sneaker for Elena Delle Donne has provided seldom yet sincere storytelling. A little under 35 years later, the Beaverton-based brand’s “WHO SAID WOMAN WAS NOT MEANT TO FLY?” campaign from 1988 is serving as the next stage of inspiration for the Nike Air Deldon 1.
Lauded for its Flyease construction that provides those with limited mobility the opportunity to effortlessly slip in and out of the silhouette, a muted “Pale Ivory” hue takes over the leather midfoot and collar alongside its mesh forefoot construction. Accented through black speckles that fill the “Light Smoke Grey” shade of its mudguard and Swoosh, further pitch-dark aesthetics lend their hand to the dark grey upper tongue and jet-black collapsable heel counter. Brightening the tonally dim outfit through a “Summit White” Zoom Air sole unit, dark violet accents enter the fold, anchoring the tongues pull tab, its lining and sparse stitching present throughout. Delle Donne’s insignia and “FLY” branding lay claim to the layered ankle collars while “Together We Fly” comes sketched across maroon insoles in conclusion.
